February 1, 2003

Brothers,

Here is the low-down on the House Corp. meeting in early Feb. and the
developments since:

Minutes (and everything else that was talked about):

Treasure's Report -

-All active brother free and clear - No outstanding balances from last
semester
-Financials OK for the time being - Waiting on a check from Questor that was
in the mail
-We are very behind in our debt to the college for the payment of the house
mother - House Corp. making a conscience effort to reduce this debt every
semester.

Old Business:

-With my initial direction and the hard work of the Pro Consul and Consul,
the active chapter has created "Officer Accountability Reports" for each of
the offices in the house. The newly-elected officers will sign these
agreements before the beginning of their term each semester. The purpose of
these agreements is to make each officer aware of what is expected of him in
the office and allow for a smooth and complete transition between officers.
Also, the executive committee and House Corp. will keep these records on
file to hold the officers accountable for their duties.

(Since the meeting, House Corp. has receive a signed copy of all of these
agreements; our Pro Consul did an outstanding job on these agreements!)

-Class ambassadors have been formed in most graduating classes and the rest
of the classes are soon to come. House Corp. will update the website with
the names of the ambassadors as they agree to the position.

** Annex **

We have decided on structural options and a location for the annex.

-House Corp has decided to consider both a one-room and two-room version of
the annex. (Since the meeting, our specs on the annex have been sent to a
Sig alum, who will be creating drawings for us at no cost (God bless him!)
-We have discussed including an entry-way for noise and heat-cost reduction
-The location will be where the volleyball court is currently.
-House Corp has decided to place the main entry-way on the north end of the
building
-House Corp is seriously considering a two-room annex as a response to the
complaints with ATO annex. ATO members and guests have complained about
"box-like" design of the annex; people feel awkward at the parties.
-We are considering a TV/Hangout Room on one end for more casual
get-togethers and a party room on the other side (cement floors, drain,
indestructibility, etc.)

*** School Ownership of the house*****

House Corp is making substantial progress on a debate that has been stewing
for the last ten years.
It has been brought to the fore-front due to the fund-raising campaign in
front of us. School-ownership will allow easier and more extensive
fundraising capabilities. Also, donations made through the college are
tax-deductible!!

Vote Held on 2/1/03

The Alpha Kappa House Corporation will pursue the notion of ceding the
Fraternity house to Hillsdale College.

This motion is contingent on the our proposal to Hillsdale College and the
offer presented to us by the H.C. Board of Trustees.

7 voting members - House Corp. President is tie-breaker

7 in favor - 0 opposed

-House Corp. is requesting that two main questions be answered in our
discussions with the college on this subject:

Where exactly will the payments of the actives go (how does the college
allocate monies from the house)?
-Is the chapter able to include a clause in the agreement with the college
to prevent them from taking the house from the chapter without adequate
warning (one semester at least)?

Since the meeting, Bill Nolan has spoken with Don Mossey and he supports the
idea and is willing to help out. Will Bill's help, we will be forming a
business plan (pending approval by house corp.) to present to President
Arnn. From there, we will establish feedback on the plan and the answers to
the aforementioned questions. Next, we take it to house Corp for final
approval and it is on the hands of the Board of trustees for there approval.

New Business:

****Founder's Day*****

The launch of the fundraising campaign for Alpha Kappa will be April 26
through a ceremony dedicated to the founders of Alpha Kappa and there
accomplishments. This date will coincide will the Hillsdale College alumni
weekend. We have coordinated our events to run at times when the college
does not have events, so that everyone will be available.

Since the meeting, we have scheduled some honorary attendees including:

Grand Praetor of the Michigan Providence of Sigma Chi
President Arnn
Dean of Men, Aaron Petersen

We are in the process of arranging the press to be present (H.C. Collegian
and Hillsdale Daily News)

All of the addition details are steadily being arranged.

Invitations for this event will be sent out in one week.
